The Herbarium of the Provincial Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador [NFM] is registered with Index Herbariorum, the New York Botanical Garden's international registry of professional herbaria.

Including material currently undergoing final processing, the Herbarium houses approximately 15 000 specimen lots of vascular plants, as well as smaller numbers of bryophytes [mosses and liverworts], charophytes [stoneworts], algae, and lichens, all collected within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Significant collections are contributed annually by the Newfoundland Rare Plant Project, for which the Herbarium serves as Provincial repository.
